BubbleBox
There's a good selection of games to chose from here, with the added bonus that you can create a curated list of your favorite games without needing an account. Most of the ads are also nicely placed as borders of the webpage, which is a rather comfortable way to view the content.

Cool Math Games
Despite the name, there are plenty of normal, non-edutainment games to play on this site. Creating an account allows you to interact with the site in new ways, such as gaining experience points and leveling up your profile. There is also an option to have a VIP account (a $5.99 / month subscription), which removes advertising.

Classic Game.com
Most of the games that are available on here are based around classics like Tetris, Arkanoid, Snake, and Pac Man. But what they lack in selection they make up for in presentation. Every game has a little icon that lets you know if it needs Flash or not, and you can mark a game as a favorite without an account. Even the ads are neatly placed.

Flipline Studios
This isn't just a place where you can play some online games; it's also the homepage of the company that made them. There are ads of course, but they've been neatly integrated into the site's layout.

poki
According to the blurb at the bottom of the page, poki wants to be the best online playground, and they are certainly well on their way. They don't require you to create an account, nor are their ads that noticable. That's partially a deliberate choice, but I think it may also have to do with how busy and cluttered their pages are.

silvergames.com
This site has a huge selection of games for you to enjoy for free. It even keeps track of what you like automatically, so all you need to do is find something you like and have some fun.

Y8 Games
Something for everyone: there's plenty of games to choose from, and many of them support community leaderboards. While the site aims to be teen-friendly, there are some parental controls built in that you can use without having to sign up. Another plus is that each game's thumbnail indicates if it needs something like Flash or WebGL.
