The plan for the day was to get up very early and head out to the park to get a photoshoot in before it got hot out. We more or less managed that.
This time around, we remembered to take some bird seed with us. When we reached a good spot on the trails, I stood extremely still with some seed in my outstretched hand. The local chickadees were quick to notice, and soon were quickly landing on my hand for a bite. They wouldn't stick around long though; they'd get their prize and fly back into the trees.
The real treat came next, as a cardinal was watching them. It approached very slowly, moving from branch to branch while it mustered up the courage to come over. When it did, it landed on my hand and remained there until it had eaten all of the safflower I was holding. You don't experience stuff like that everyday!
Well, unless your name happens to be Aurora or Snow White, anyway.
After the trek through the park, we stopped at the grocery store where we picked up some groceries and lunch. I ended up not eating as much as I'd expected, so I've got lunch for tomorrow as well. That said, I did have some cheddar potatoes, buffalo wraps, chili, jerky, dumplings and a Mt. Dew today.
Most of the remainder of the day was quietly spent playing Minecraft. Not nearly as awesome as the beginning of the day, but I needed to flatten a large hill to prepare for some building I'm planning on.
Link of the day: When ocelots attack
While filming a documentary, a wild ocelot pounced on the film crew and star of the show. This ended just as you might expect: the playful kitty stole the show.
